When to Book a Newborn Photographer on the Gold Coast?
If you are expecting a baby, you may be wondering when you should book your newborn photographer—especially when your baby’s actual arrival date is impossible to predict.
The best time to book a newborn photographer is usually during your second trimester. This gives you the best chance of securing a place around your estimated due date, while still allowing plenty of flexibility once your baby arrives.
At my Varsity Lakes studio, I reserve a limited number of newborn sessions each month so every family receives a calm, personalised experience. You do not need to know the exact day your baby will be born before making a booking. Your due date simply holds your place in my calendar, and we confirm the actual photography date after your little one arrives.
How Far in Advance Should I Book Newborn Photography on the Gold Coast?
I recommend getting in touch after your 12-week scan or during your second trimester. Many families book between 12 and 24 weeks of pregnancy, although you are always welcome to enquire earlier or later.
Booking during pregnancy means you can:
- Secure availability around your due date
- Begin planning colours, styling and meaningful details
- Discuss including parents, siblings or grandparents
- Organise the session before the busy newborn weeks begin
- Feel confident knowing this special experience has already been arranged
Newborn photographers can book several months ahead, particularly around popular times of the year. If newborn photography is important to you, it is worth reserving your session before your baby arrives rather than waiting until the last minute.
Do I Book an Exact Date Before My Baby Is Born?
No!! because babies rarely follow the calendar!
When you book, I record your estimated due date and reserve space around that time. Once your baby is born, you contact me with the happy news and we arrange the most suitable session date.
This system gives us flexibility if your baby arrives earlier or later than expected. You will not lose your session simply because your baby chooses a different birthday.
Is It Too Late to Book After My Baby Is Born?
Not necessarily. If your baby is already here, please still get in touch. I occasionally have last-minute availability, and beautiful newborn photographs can be created beyond the traditional first two weeks.
The session may look slightly different depending on your baby’s age and how settled or alert they are, but your images can still capture all the tiny details, family connection and personality that make this time so special.
It is always worth asking rather than assuming you have missed your chance.

My studio provides a carefully selected collection of wraps, props and newborn outfits, so you do not need to arrive with everything organised yourself. I will guide you through preparing for the session and later help you choose the photographs and products you love most.
